Online Gambling Sites and Examples of Addiction

Gamble is the wagering some thing of worth on an uncertain event with an aim of winning some other thing of equal or more value. It may be in the form of betting, dealing with a machine, or gambling with a friend. Gambling therefore requires three components to be in place: risk, consideration, and a reward. If the risk is high the probability of winning a prize also increases and vice versa. In gambling it is always the quantity of risk that matters.

There are many different ways to gamble including online, land-based casinos, credit cards, sports book, and mobile phones. Online gambling has taken over land based casinos all over the world in terms of popularity, mainly because there is less hassle of travel from home, and you can gamble at any time of day or night. Credit cards and sports books have also made gambling more accessible to people with poor credit histories and little or no funds available to them. Mobile phones have also revolutionized gambling. Gamblers can now gamble on the go, while working or studying, without having to give up the family car or worry about missing their trains or planes.

Many gamblers will develop the habit of gamblers are they are young and healthy and disregard possible outcomes, gambling as they are young and healthy is what they prefer. However most gamblers will lose some, if not all, of their initial investment, which may cause them to consider a different method of gambling or to simply accept the fact that gambling is not really worth it. The most common argument against gambling is that gambling involves chance. Gambling involves chance because the only way to predict the outcome of a gamble is to guess and hope for the best, it does not follow that it is inevitably accurate. In the final analysis chance is a force that we can neither control, influence, nor understand, but it does offer an opportunity for those who can exercise better self-discipline in terms of how they spend their money and how they make gambling decisions.

Addiction: Some claim that gambling is simply a gateway addiction, a “gateway” into harder forms of gambling, such as online gambling addictions. This argument seems plausible when you look at those who cannot stop and keep playing even when they know they are losing or when they are tired and physically ill. These gamblers are not addicted to poker or slots, but to gambling. They are not dependent on their winnings, but dependent on their ability to keep playing. To put it another way, they are compulsive gamblers, just like alcoholics, drug addicts, and other problem gamblers are compulsive gamblers.

Addiction and gambling addiction have similar symptoms and can often be mistaken for a single issue or disorder. However addiction, especially gambling addiction, is a serious and growing problem. It is estimated that over 25% of Americans have some sort of gambling addiction. Gambling addiction is more common among men (particularly heavy gamblers) than women, and particularly among middle-aged males with careers and families. While it is not uncommon for middle-aged males with careers to engage in gaming, it is more common for them to get caught up in the thrill of competition and placing a bet, rather than losing money due to financial difficulties or other factors.

In summary, there are three main categories of gambling behavior. They include “micro-gamble” like lotteries and instant lotteries where the objective is to lose small amounts of money without trying to win large sums of money. “Pro-gamble” is where the objective is to win large sums of money by beating the odds, while “bets” are betting on specific sporting events or games. The most common example of a multi-player game is betting on NCAA basketball games or horse races, but there are also examples such as online roulette and scratch cards, sports gambling, online blackjack, baccarat, high stakes poker, online lotto, etc.
